The Quarterly Newsletter

Observations from over forty years of managing capital.

Our quarterly newsletter provides considered commentary on markets, economic conditions, portfolio decisions, and the broader context in which we are operating.

Each issue covers four areas: a review of the markets over the preceding quarter, current positioning across interest rates and commodities, any portfolio allocation changes made during the quarter, and firm-level housekeeping. The tone is measured. The goal is to help our readers think clearly about what is happening, without being distracted by the noise that dominates the financial press.

About the Author

John Bennett Woodard III.

Investment Advisor Representative at Woodard & Company Asset Management Group and the second generation of the Woodard family within the firm.

Within the bounds of the firm’s investment discipline, John has been a driving force behind the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence and modern research tools into the firm’s workflow, using them to process larger volumes of market, economic, and company-specific information than was previously feasible, to stress-test ideas across more scenarios, and to keep the team current on a market that moves faster every year. The objective is never to replace the judgment of the Investment Committee. It is to sharpen it.

Outside the office, John is a competitive endurance athlete whose résumé includes multiple Ironman triathlons, marathons, and the Badwater® Cape Fear 51.4-Mile Ultramarathon. He grew up on a 280 acre farm raising Angus beef cattle, corn, and soybeans in Mocksville, North Carolina, a grounding pursuit that shapes the same long-horizon, patient thinking he applies to managing client wealth. He hosts The Generational Investors podcast alongside his father. John is an Eagle Scout, a cum laude Virginia Tech Finance and Economics graduate, and holds his Series 65 and Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) licenses.

John believes that a great financial advisor is more than a portfolio manager, he is a long-term partner in the stewardship of a client’s life’s work.
